Out of 300 tea tree subspecies, there’s only one, the Melaleuca alternifolia that yields tea tree essential oil. The oil is gained through a process involving water vapour distillation.

The tea tree grows so fast that within 1-1.5 year(s) after felling the stomp produces a new, fully-grown tree. Its strong, spicy-woody scent is unmistakable.

This is the only essential oil (save lavender) that you can apply directly on your skin (with care, in small amounts and on a small area) without mixing it with anything else.
