Better than water for exercising

The juice of green, unripe coconuts is a refreshing beverage which is rich in minerals, yet low in carbohydrates and calories. The white-coloured liquid contains less fat and is not as fragrant as coconut milk sourced from brown, ripe coconuts, yet it has a number of other advantages.

It's the best natural refreshment when breaking into a sweat

Coconut water is a great isotonic drink offering a natural way of resupplying minerals lost during exercise or when sweating in the heat. A 100 ml of coconut water contains only 15 calories and less than 5 grams of sugar, yet has as much potassium as 4 bananas. It's rich in calcium, magnesium and phosphorus whilst hardly containing any fat at all.

It's usually served mixed with fruit juice to make it tastier. It beats all traditional sports beverages since instead of artificial colourings and synthetic vitamins, it contains real, natural nutrients and is commonly available in shops.

In fact, in some cases, coconut water can be better than plain drinking water since its composition is surprisingly similar to human blood-plasma therefore in the past, it was occasionally used in some countries to hydrate patients, for example in Japan during World War II.

According to the latest medical studies, although it might not be the best infusion, it certainly beats isotonic drinks and water as a sports beverage since more of it can be consumed without any stomach complaints.

Therefore, coconut water is a great choice after great physical demands (making it perfect for long-distance runners, tennis players or hikers!) or in extreme heat.
