3 Foods for a strong immune system and beautiful skin

There is a range of different foods which, if consumed regularly, can improve the health of your skin – some other treats will tip the balance in the opposite direction though. If you have highly sensitive skin or suffer from eczema/spots, taking extra care of what you eat is strongly advised.

Today I’ll recommend 3 foods that will make you more beautiful inside and out while also boosting your immune system. All that may be very helpful in this transition period between winter and spring – as this is the time when our body’s last vitamin reserves are running low.

1. Turmeric

One of India’s favourite yellow spices. For millennia, this plant has been cherished for a number of health benefits. You may know it mainly as the spice that gives your curry that distinctive yellow colour – but it’s widely used as a natural colour in a range of foods. This amazing natural treasure is inexpensive and easy to find.
It’s a great ingredient for body cleansing cures. Put it in rice meals, cream soups and even in your natural energy drinks, i.e. fruit juices and smoothies. It works well with ginger in those drinks.

My favourite is the following, super easy drink: I mix a teaspoon of turmeric to 1.5-2 pints of hot water then add 2 teaspoons’ freshly grated ginger. Finally, I squeeze the juice of a whole lemon into the mix.

It has various uses in beauty care too:

Tooth whitening: a paste is made of turmeric and some water then used to brush the teeth. It will certainly colour your toothbrush but it will also whiten your teeth gently and effectively. You can also mix it to your natural toothpaste – although you may find its spicy flavour a bit unusual.

As a facial mask to treat spots: the mask is made of rice flour, yoghurt, milk and a pinch of the yellow powder, applied to the skin and gently scrubbed off once dry. Turmeric may also colour facial skin slightly. The yellow tinge can easily be washed off with soap – still, you might want to experiment with that on weekends only. Try the mask in a smallish area of your facial skin first.

2. Linseed

This small-grain seed is not just for decorating the top of pastries and cream soups. Add the seeds (whole or ground) to dough, salads and granola. It’s rich in vitamins and trace elements too – but the real goodness in there is called Omega-3 and alpha-linolenic acid. These are fatty acids that are invaluable for keeping hair and skin beautiful and healthy. It’s a must-have for those who have eczema as well as for people over 35.

3. Oolong tea

It’s one of the tea varieties (green, white teas) rich in antioxidants. However, what makes this tea stand out is the fact that its regular consumption can alleviate skin problems like eczema and relieve indigestion. It’s all down to its ability to block and reduce inflammation inside the body.
