Did the Sun get to you?

Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that despite years of experience, caution, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen, our day spent outdoors can have an unexpected outcome. If you feel like your skin is hot, flushed and tight in the evening, you should act fast to limit the damage caused by sunburn.

The first and most important rule: you should realize in time that your skin is unprotected and don’t expose the burnt surfaces to sunshine again.
The second rule is to provide for the hydration of your skin as soon as possible, so even while heading home, make sure you get enough to drink.

What can you do once you get home?

I rarely suggest such a thing, but dairy products can be a great help: try making a compress with kephir or yogurt or have a lukewarm, milky bath possibly with oatmeal (which can be helpful even without milk) which will greatly improve your general sense of well-being and the inflammation of your skin.

It’s important when dealing with inflamed or damaged skin to replace fragrant soaps and shower gels with one of our scent-free Mannas developed for dry, sensitive skin.

After a lukewarm shower or a gentle bath, carefully soak up the water from the damaged skin with a soft towel and apply a hint of fresh and natural aloe vera gel on the still slightly damp skin (the best solution is to always keep a few pots of this undemanding, yet incredible useful plant at home).

Once you’re done with that, carefully dampen a cotton pad and wipe off the residue of the gel from your skin and then gently apply some plain, scent-free shea butter or virgin coconut oil on your skin. If you feel like your skin absorbed all the butter, you can repeat the process a few hours later.
If you like tea, it’s a good idea to have a cup of green tea rich in antioxidants J

What should you avoid at all costs?

Don’t rub, scrub or irritate your sunburnt skin and only apply the gentlest care for your skin for days.
