How to protect the sensitive skin of your hand
Past the season of gloves and nippy weather, you will need more than skin-softening and skin-protecting butters. Dry skin during the winter can be really unpleasant and those who are more sensitive to it may see their hand skin flush, swell and ache. It may also become uneven and the eczema on it worse.
Warm, oily masks and massage can help with those symptoms – especially if you put on hand moisture gloves (made of soft, stretchy cotton) overnight to allow those nourishing oils even more time to be absorbed in your skin.
It’s really worth taking good care of your hands – if unprotected the skin on the back of your hand may give in to early aging
- Always wear gloves when doing washing up, gardening or cleaning, and wash your hands well after you’ve taken them off. Avoid chemical-based antibacterial soaps and hot air hand dryers.
- Give your skin the best care – using quick-absorption coconut oil or shea butter during the day and denser, richer cocoa butter or sweet almond oil in the evening.
- Sunlight may leave it with freckles and liver spots – so it’s important to use a cream that contains sunscreen whenever you leave the house gloveless.
- Don’t spare your argan oil when it comes to nail- nail bed care. It really pays off.
- You can also deploy essential oils in nail care: if you’ve spotted the first signs of fungal infection on your nails prevent a full-on infection with the following mix:
- 5 drops of tea tree essential oil
- 1 drop of cinnamon essential oil
- 2 drops of lavender essential oil
- 1 tablespoon of castor oil or virgin coconut oil
- You can grab the brush of a disused eyelash mascara to quickly and gently remove the impurities stuck under your nails.
