Natural, DIY treatments for smoother hair and effortless combing

Do you have thin hair? Does it feel like a punishment every time you brush it? Do you happen to be the mother of a long-haired girl and not so keen on treating her hair with chemicals? Do you know the pain of seeing your daughter cry under the brush every morning? It doesn’t have to be that way. Nature has a solution!

Natural, pure oils are the best for hair care – they even protect against the hot air of the hair dryer. However, those oils tend to make the hair a bit heavy. So take my advice: when using virgin coconut butter or argan oil, make sure you don’t apply it using your hands. Use a spray bottle instead. It will also help you get more value out of your oil!

If you feel like the pure oil treatment is not for you, here are 2 recipes.

1.

What you will need:

  • ½ litre of water
  • 4 tablespoons of marshmallow root tea
  • 4 tablespoons of cider vinegar (5%)
    tablespoons of argan oil
15 drops of your favourite essential oil (lavender, rosemary and tea tree oil are the best for hair care)

Method:

Add the marshmallow root tea to the water, bring it to the boil (15-20 min) then let it cool down and drain. Mix the vinegar, the oil and the essential oil in a bowl then add the marshmallow root brew and pour the whole mix into a pump-action spray bottle. An empty flower water bottle could be perfect.

2.

Another recipe – it’s quite similar except that it contains a higher dose of essential oil and aloe vera gel replaces cider vinegar.

What you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons of marshmallow root tea
  • ½ litre of water
  • 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
  • 20 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops of rosemary essential oil
  • Optional: you may also add 1 tablespoon of argan oil – it will make your mix even more fantastic!
Method:
Let the marshmallow root tea boil with the water until about a half of the mix evaporates. Then drain the tea and leave it to cool. Add the rest of the ingredients and transfer the mix into a spray bottle. Store it in the fridge when not it’s not used. This amount should last for 1-2 weeks.
