The 5 signs of a thirsty body

You might have heard a lot about the importance of consuming enough liquid – it’s crucial both for your health and for the beauty of your skin. And yet, despite the hot weather, many people (even youngsters) will only realise they are dehydrated when they start feeling seriously unwell.

If you are one of those people who think that one or two glasses of water a day will do, well, then today’s post is for you.

1. If you don’t sweat (enough)
For many people, the whole point of not drinking enough liquid is to avoid the trouble of sweating. But that’s a serious mistake because perspiration has the vital role of cooling the body. A lack of sweat in hot weather or during exercise, dance or sport that could mean that your body is on the brink of overheating – drink something as soon as possible.

2. If you have headaches or dizziness
The first thing to do against a headache in hot weather is to drink a glass of water immediately.

3. If you’re feeling tired, absent-minded, sleepy or hungry all the time
These could also be signals that your body is not getting enough liquid and it’s therefore unable to cool itself down properly in the heat.

4. If your skin, eyes or mouth feel dry
Even if you spend hours in air-conditioned rooms every day, these symptoms are not necessarily caused by dry air.

5. If your visits to the women’s/men’s room are getting unusually rare
That’s also a sign that all is not well. Three or four times a day is almost certainly not enough.

So what’s the best thing to drink? First of all, avoid drinks containing caffeine, alcohol and sugar. If you think you are unable to drink 2 litres of liquid a day then add low-salt foods to your diet: eat soup, juicy vegetables and fruit.
