True beauty comes from inside

If you want to keep your skin healthy and beautiful, it’s not enough to use the best natural cosmetic. What you eat matters too.

For a very long time, dermatologists and nutritionists have been busy finding the links between diet and skin health. Which foods, vitamins and trace elements are can help to protect and maintain the skin’s health and youthful look?

According to the research by the American Academy

  • Low-fat-, low-sugar diet as well as regular consumption of vitamin C and linoleic acid (found in most vegetable oils) slow down skin aging. Research has proven that a healthy and balanced diet keeps people young and gives their skin a more beautiful look.
  • A high-sugar diet may harm your skin too, making it prone to wrinkles and reducing elasticity. On the contrary, if you eat a lot of vegetables, leguminous plants, fish and olive oil (but consume little or no dairy and sugar) you lower the risk of wrinkles caused by sunlight.
A healthy diet can alleviate existing skin conditions too
  • If you have oily skin and spots it’s best to avoid foods made of plain flour, sugar and dairy – the transformation will be spectacular
  • People suffering from eczema are in for good news too: research is already being conducted into how restoring a healthy gut flora (e.g. with pro-biotics) can cure and/or prevent this skin condition
  • People grappling with psoriasis can relieve their symptoms by adopting a low-fat diet
Medicinal herbs can be extremely useful for curing skin problems
  • For spotty skin, try cleavers tea or plantain tea
  • For inflamed skin, I recommend drinking the mix of camomile, walnut leaf and yarrow (mix in equal measure)
  • Nettle tea is one of my all-time favourites: it cleans the blood, it’s anti-inflammatory and mildly diuretic. That’s why it has been used in popular medicine for centuries. It also reduces levels of blood sugar and cholesterol. I love it not only for its pure, fine taste – but also because nettle brew is great for hair wash. It makes the hair healthy and gives it extra radiance.
