5 Tips and Tricks to Get Great Sleep in a Heatwave

You find it challenging to get enough shut-eye every single day?

Then you know that a few tips that improve your sleep can be a blessing. In the summer, even those might have trouble sleeping who normally do not have any sleep issues, as extreme heat can be very tiring for the human body.

You may feel exhausted, get slow, and in the evening fall into bed like a sack of potatoes. However, there is no escape from the heat during the night: instead of a restful and relaxed sleep, you only toss and turn all night long, and end up feeling groggy the next morning.

I’ve gathered some natural tips and tricks that can make it easier for you to get a good night’s sleep instead of tossing and turning!

1.Take a shower with lukewarm water

After a hot day, you would probably be heading to the shower anyway, but instead of shocking your overheated body with ice-cold water, you should choose a lukewarm shower or bath. For complete relaxation, you can try Manna natural shower gels, or bath bombs, or maybe put some drops of essential oil into your bath water (of course, first dilute it with carrier oil).

2.Use ice cubes

You do not have to think of anything drastic. Apply this method only once you have already reduced your body temperature with lukewarm water: take the ice gel out of the freezer, and place it on your wrist, the hollows at the back of your knees, your neck or your ankles. It is also a good idea to roll ice cubes into a towel, and place them on the pulsating points. Using this method, you can cool down your entire body in 10 to 15 minutes. If you wake up at night dripping in sweat again, just wipe your body with the wet towel, which will make your feel much more comfortable.

3.Chill your pillow

Place your pillow, or at least its cover, into a sealable bag, and place it in the fridge. It will feel fantastic to lay down on chilled bedding at the end of an exhausting day, not to mention that this will help you keep your body temperature low, which is necessary for a great sleep.

4.Use summer bedding

Cotton has the best absorbent properties, making this fibre ideal for sheets. Use a silk or satin cover for your duvet, as these materials give a light, cool feel and get warmer less than cotton. It also makes quite a difference what kind of mattress you are lying on in the summer: avoid foam rubber and foam-filled pillows in summer as they absorb heat.

5.Drink lots of liquids

Drink a glass of water right before going to bed to make up for the fluid loss due to sweating. However, you should not drink more than one glasses of water, as this may wake you up during the night.
