5+1 things that make you happier

Do you often get out of the wrong side of the bed and frequently feel like every day is a Monday? You can blame your foul mood on stress, spring fatigue, a lack of vitamins or all the bad things happening to you and around you, but I want you to know that the choice is yours.

Your basic mood greatly depends on you.

I'm sure you know quite a few people who are always kind and seem to have a smile on their face and seem to brush off minor annoyances which can ruin your whole day. It's not just that they're lucky to be born this way or that that their positive view on life makes them happier than others. According to psychologists, cheerful people do quite a lot to feel good and they do not let anything ruin their good mood.

So what's their secret?

First of all, the most important thing is that they pay attention to themselves, they know what they need and are capable of putting their own needs ahead of their tasks and aren't worn out by the storm of expectations and daily tasks they're faced with.

  1. They devote time to themselves
Are you going to have a hard day with exams or important meetings and you already know in the morning that you won't have a moment to yourself until the evening? Then before anything else, start the day by comfortably taking the time to sip your cup of coffee or tea. All you need is fifteen minutes to feel a lot less stressful.

  1. They regularly exercise
Twenty or thirty minutes of exercise, yoga or even a long walk can do a lot to make you calmer, more level-headed and satisfied. Keep in mind that regular exercise doesn't just improve your health, but your mood as well.

  1. They get enough sleep
We're only just starting to realize the importance of this, but you can prevent a lot of diseases, weight gain and early aging by getting 7-8 hours of sleep a day, even if in several instalments.

  1. They don't get upset over trifle matters
Is it really worth ruining your good mood over some minor incident? Don't let a nasty or careless remark ruin your whole day! Let go of it and simply exhale all the annoyance with a simple breathing exercise – you're feeling better already, right?

  1. They pay attention to their surroundings
Your home isn't the only place which should have a pleasant and appealing atmosphere: a few potted plants, some personal effects of even a vaporiser can make even the bleakest workplace environment cosier. Wherever you spend the majority of your day, you should make the space as comfortable and personal as possible.

+1 They aren't afraid to experience their emotions

The secret to level-headedness isn't to swallow your offenses, anger and rage. If you feel hurt, helpless or mad, try finding a way to release these feelings in the fastest and most effective way. Try discussing it with someone, go out cycling or for a walk or run, watch a good film or an episode of your favourite series or try treating yourself to some little reward like a pleasant bath, lift weights or take up a martial arts course. All that counts is that you free yourself of your annoying burden as soon as possible.
