9 further uses of coconut oil
Coconut oil is one of the most versatile natural skin care products: you can use it on your skin or put it on your hair as a mask; it’s also an excellent nailbed cream; on a cotton pad it becomes an effective eye shade remover; adding some fine-grain sugar, you can turn it into a body scrub and it’s an ideal substitute for the shaving soap too.
You might know less about its many uses in the house and the kitchen – from furniture care to baking cakes.
So let’s see what coconut oil can do for you:
- It can replace sugar as a sweetener in your coffee
- It can replace butter (1:1) in cakes
- Use it as a chemical-free soap stain remover in your bathroom: instead of detergents, use coconut oil on a sponge to clean your bathtub
- You can use it to prevent your lunch boxes from getting coloured: spread a thin layer of coconut oil in the inside of the box – which is then protected from the colouring impact of chilli- and paprika sauces and soups.
- Use it as a preservative for eggs: apply it to the shell of the eggs to ensure their freshness for months
- Protect your knives from rust: treat lesser-used items with coconut oil
- Scrub mould off furniture and household objects using a 1:1 mixture of coconut oil and bicarbonate soda
- Eliminate sticky patches: coconut oil helps to remove chewing gums and stickers (and/or the traces of them). Just give the affected surfaces a good wipe with coconut oil
- Treat leather- and wooden surfaces: coconut oil not only makes your furniture and objects shine – it will get absorbed and provide care from the inside.
