Be mindful and enjoy every moment

I don’t know your daily routine but as far as I’m concerned, I quite often find myself juggling 3-4 tasks at the same time. I’m cooking, listening to music, talking on the phone whilst keeping an eye on the kids too. As a mother I often don’t have a choice – and I have learned what a mind-boggling exercise multi tasking can be.

Unfortunately, doing many things at once is as inefficient as it is exhausting.

If you have ever found yourself snowed under tasks and unable to get anything done; if you feel you’re always pressed for time or stuck in a seemingly endless crisis management exercise, then read this post carefully – it was written for You.

If you’re familiar with Asian spiritual teachings you have surely heard about the power of meditation. It’s a very effective way of beating stress and anxiety and it also helps to regulate the body’s self-healing mechanism. A self-conscious and mindful presence has similar effects. Most of them have been proven with medical research too, which has really helped these therapies get into the mainstream – and not just among those interested in spiritual wisdom but among psychologists too.

Nothing stops You from adopting some of these practices

1. Be self-conscious! Whatever it is you’re doing, concentrate on that one thing only.

2. Mind your senses! Whenever you find that your attention is drifting, concentrate on your sensations: temperature, touch and tastes can all help to fully appreciate the flavour of a bit of chocolate or the sun’s warmth on your skin. You will miss all that pleasure if your mind is all over the place all the time.

3. Control your thoughts: if they drift too far away, you won’t be able to switch off, unwind and enjoy yourself – and you won’t pay enough attention to your own needs or to the people around you. In short, you won’t have the full experience of spending time with them.

What does this method offer?

  • You will be surprised how much your efficiency and speed will improve – whether it’s in studying, getting things done or simply focussing your attention.

  • You can drastically reduce stress and its symptoms: sleep deprivation, anxiety, excessive eating and the desire to snack – as well as the worrying about what might happen to you.

  • A more mindful presence will help to focus your attention and energy and make achieving your goals a bit easier

  • You will become happier, more balanced and capable of fully discovering the pleasure of a good bath, a relaxing massage or a soft blanket.

It’s not rocket science: experience and appreciate the good things around you cheer up!
