For detoxifying and removing excreta
Although the traditional fasting period is still far ahead of us, the beginning of the year is a great time to change your diet since the festive period can surely leave a mark on your skin if you normally cope with skin problems, acne or spots.
Whether your goal is to establish a healthier lifestyle, go on a diet or detoxify and take a load off your body or to have clean, beautiful, immaculate facial skin, one of the most important things apart from drinking plenty of liquids is to eat foodstuffs with a high fibre content.
The digestion of plant-based fibre takes a longer time and thus it provides a filling sense for a longer period of time, making sure you get hungry less often and providing you with more energy when choosing food rich in fibre. Part of the fibre cannot be used by your body and can thus help accelerate and facilitate your metabolism and lower your cholesterol and blood sugar levels, which can come in handy if you haven't been paying much attention lately to adopting healthy choices in your diet.
The following list consists of foodstuffs with the highest fibre content which can easily be purchased in the winter period and are fast and easy to prepare:
Yellow or split peas, various beans: great for cream soups, casseroles, sides dishes and even in salads when cooled after cooking, providing a boost or energy and warmth in the cold weather.
Lentils: if you're fed up with lentil soup or casseroles, you can add oriental spices to create new, exciting dishes or even sandwich spreads. Lentils are filled with vitamins and trace elements which are great for your hair and skin.
Broccoli, Brussels sprouts: adding a few drops of lemon juice to the cooking water can help eliminate the bitter taste which makes these super healthy and particularly beautiful vegetables unpopular.
Carrots: take a few raw carrots with you as a snack or grate them into your salad. You can cook them in a soup or even use them to make sweets and cookies.
Blackberries, raspberries: unfortunately these are mainly available in a frozen form, yet they're perfect additions for cream soups or smoothies.
Apples, pears, citrus fruit: these constant fixtures can be used in new ways, mixed in salads or cooked and baked.
Wholemeal cereals and oilseeds are also great choices in this period and have countless beneficial effects.
