Speed up your metabolism!

If you want to change your lifestyle, lose weight, live healthier or just recharge your batteries after those long, dark winter days – then bear in mind that all of those are easier to achieve with improved metabolism and reduced stress.

Here is some advice to help you achieve your goals:

1. Priority Nr.1: sleep
Not getting enough relaxing sleep sends a signal to your body that it needs more energy. You don’t want to wander about with bleary eyes all day so you grab some caffeine and sugar to give yourself a boost – this is not a good choice. Sleep deprivation may lead to severe illness and it could also cause weight gain even in the short term. If there’s no other way, go to bed earlier and take afternoon naps at least during the weekend. You will see that your appetite will go back to normal and you will no longer crave high-sugar, high-energy food.

2. Get movin’!
Don’t worry, it’s not about doing insanely exhausting exercise, building muscles or burning fat. It’s much healthier to choose a form of exercise that you enjoy, one that you are able to fit into your daily routine for the long term. Whether it’s yoga, a 3-minute stroll, a 20-minute exercise at home, regular step climbing or dancing to your favourite music – any of those will do, the point is to have a good time while giving your bloodstream a boost.

3. Varied diet
If you keep eating similar (or the same) dishes all the time your metabolism will get used to that pattern. Go ahead and explore new dishes, try to consume more fibre – but not in the form of high-sugar fruit juice.

4. Consume more (and more varied) liquid
Drink more and drink a bigger variety: different kinds of medicinal herb tea, green tea, pure water (2 litres per day) and soups – you will see that variety in itself is delightful.

You may want to try this diet treat made with cider vinegar: mix a teaspoon of cider vinegar in a glass of water and start every meal by drinking it in small sips. You can always choose to put the vinegar on top of a salad of course; the point is that it helps metabolism and the burning of fat.

5. Good timing
Make your timing perfect: eat often and eat small portions during the day – the best is to grab a few bites every 3 hours to ensure you’re never hungry and short of energy. Switch off entirely for the night though: avoid eating late and let your body rest for a good 10-12 hours during the night.
