This is why no matter how much you eat, you can still have a little dessert

Naturally, you don't always have to say no, since there can be huge differences between various desserts. Fresh fruit, fruit porridge, creams or even ice cream can be made from healthy ingredients, even without sugar or dairy products.

However, I was interested in why we always feel like we can have dessert, even after gorging ourselves. Is this a habit, or is it because of our sweet tooth - where did this come from? I recently found an answer to this in an article in Time magazine in which researchers explain this phenomenon by the way humankind has been providing for the most optimal supply of vitamins and nutrients for their body by eating as many different kinds of food as possible.

Rainbow Diet

This explains why you feel you can follow up sweets with something savoury or savoury with sweets or perhaps a little ice cream even after a heavy dinner with multiple courses. It's your body's way of telling you to eat diversely!

If you want to eat healthier foods, if you're on a diet, if you feel you crave desserts too often or if you simply decided to make do with smaller portions, you can try the trick suggested by dietary experts to sidestep this ancient instinct.

Prepare smaller portions for a meal, but try making them as diverse as possible by ensuring you have food of many different colours, flavours, textures on your plate, both hot and cold. Try it and see for yourself how less tempting eating dessert might seem at the end of a full meal.

One more tip: if you feel like you're longing for some chocolate after a long, hard day at work, it could be that it's just your body telling you it needs more magnesium and iron. You can provide this with a few pieces of dark chocolate or by choosing some non-sugary, hard-shelled nuts instead.
