Turn your summer holiday into a beauty care trip

I’ve already written on what you should consider and what you definitely shouldn’t forget to pack before going on holiday.

The summer holiday is a great opportunity for stress-free beauty care and it gives you time to pay more attention to yourself and to your body’s needs. Getting more fresh air during those long hours spent outdoors, relaxing and refilling your batteries will naturally lead to more beautiful skin – especially if you take heed of these 5 tips.

Make your holiday work for your beauty

1. Unless you are off to a party holiday or a music festival, get enough sleep (at last). In just a few days, you will see the dark rings under your eyes disappear and your skin regain its healthy tone.

2. Consume enough liquid – up to 2-3 litres a day – if it feels good. Don’t worry if you sweat it out – in fact, that’s how your body gets rid of toxins. Forget about coffee in the morning for a while – instead, try eating just fruit for breakfast, and don’t rush it. Nutritionists claim there’s nothing as good for your health as that: it boosts metabolism, gives you vitamins and trace elements whilst hydrating your body. If it’s not a big sacrifice, try to stick with this diet after your holiday too – you will see how it benefits your skin health, especially if you suffer from cellulite or water retention.

3. Leave your makeup at home and give your skin a chance to refresh. Summer heat, sunshine and your makeup foundation don’t make a healthy combo – so let your pores breathe freely for at least a couple of days. Sunshine is a great disinfectant but if you suffer from spots, beware that it’s not a good idea to expose inflamed areas to direct sunshine as scars may get burned into your skin and leave you with stains and traces that are difficult to fade.

4. It’s not only salty sea water that dries your skin – disinfectants used in pool water can also irritate and dehydrate it. Once you have come out of the water take a shower to wash all those chemicals off your skin and hair. You can reduce mild sunburn or skin redness with shea butter in the evenings – it will also help to avoid dry skin.

5. Protect your hair from the sun. Especially if you have dyed hair, protect it from direct sunshine with a hat or scarf. At night, you may want to treat your hair ends with a few drops of beauty oil or coconut oil to prevent splitting.

And the most important thing: relax, enjoy freedom and summer – and have a good time!
