Buy some time with reading

Do you love curling up in an armchair with a good book – or do you prefer lounging on the sofa instead? Do you take books on your holiday and relish the joy of a good read? Have you switched for an e-reader yet?

If you are a bookworm I’ve got good news for you. Researchers at Yale University have found that rather than taking time away, reading actually increases your life expectancy. People who read about 30 minutes a day tend to live an average 2 years longer than those who read less frequently – and bookworms outlive their telly-watching peers by 2+ years.

Started in the year 2000, the research featured people from all walks of life; their only common trait was that they were all aged over 50. The research took many years and showed that people who love reading maintain their mental health and freshness longer than those who aren’t book fans.

The days are growing shorter and evenings longer as we approach the season of cold, rainy afternoons – but there are a lot of exciting stories waiting for discovery!
