The myriad wonders of lemons!

When you imagine a lemon, don't just think of its sour taste, as this fruit can support your body in many different ways - all you have to do is get to know its inherent potentials!

Lemons are all about Vitamin C, which is something we learned as early as in primary school, but the truth is that the fruit has far more to "offer". You can use it for many different purposes from preparing dishes to cosmetics and household chores. The fruit originates from India, from where it took the world by storm. Keep in mind that we're talking about fresh lemons and the essential oil of its seeds and not the synthetic lemon juice sold in stores. Let me tell you about the various ways to use it.

As a supply of vitamins

It's important to keep in mind that the human body cannot produce or store Vitamin C on its own, even though it's indispensable for cellular function and its lack can lead to diseases. That's precisely why you should provide for some form of lemon intake several times a week.
Actually, lemons contain Vitamins A and B along with Vitamin C, both of which are of vital importance for the health of your nervous system, as well as the regeneration of tissues. Apart from vitamins, it naturally also contains a wide range of minerals, including potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and fructose.

To fight off nausea

If you suffer from nausea on extended car or bus trips, or possibly when flying, try drinking some lemon water a half hour before departure and you'll see that your symptoms will be mitigated and your stomach will feel better. It also has an anthelmintic and diuretic effect and can reduce bloating. Moreover, lemon enhances salivation and alleviates thirst, as it dissolves and purges inorganic salts.

Anti-bacterial effect

Lemons also have a great bactericide effect and can help treat respiratory diseases. Thanks to its anti-bacterial effect, lemons can also help treat stomach complaints. I suggest sipping some lemon juice mixed with a little sugar-free water as lemons lose most of their beneficial effects when mixed with sugar as the sweetener can serve as the breeding ground for bacteria.

It alkalizes the body

As strange as it may sound, lemons aren't acidic and instead have an alkaline effect, so eating lemons can help curb the acidification of the body.
